Arabia’s Apple Of Eden

1.  According to Arab mythology, pomegranates were the apples in the Garden of Eden. They’re almost designer fruit, large, bulbous, and rather irregular, in shades of lemon to soft pink to crimson. Inside their tough outer skin they are a mass of bitter seeds held in tiny sacks of sweet rose-red pulp. You could be forgiven for thinking that these are not fruits you eat. The crunchy seeds add life to salads and casseroles as well as being the basis for an unusual juice.

2.  Concentrated pomegranate juice used in your recipes will cast a magical spell over very simple dishes, making it almost impossible for your guests to guess the secret ingredient. As pomegranates are not common in green groceries, though we may see them in autumn or see imported fruit in spring.
